Our Clients are a couple who work from a premises adjacent to the Family home. They like the finer things in life and wanted to entertain from the kitchen whilst still having it accessible for their workers who can come in muddy and dirty. They built an extension through the kitchen window space with large open bifold doors and decking area.
This means that they wanted practical clean lines but something with a designer look and that is robust enough withstand the rigours of a large dog who is prone to scratching at doors, that can give a great bespoke look and that will have the wow factor on first impressions when someone comes to visit.
They wanted an island design to open up into the newly built extension which will be a living and entertaining area whilst still being easy to clean and practical for their workforce to use. The client is very fond of frequent cups of tea and is a self confessed bad cook.
The client already had grey bifold doors and were inclined to try and keep this theme alive with a grey and white. We suggested a matt satin finish glass fronted door kitchen front for the island and lower units, whilst having wall units and tall units in white. This being in satin glass will exceed the requirements for the wear and tear and cleaning aspects, whilst looking fantastic as a first impression when entering the room.
We were asked to “come up with a wow feature” for the island so we placed a chunky breakfast bar on the worktop illuminated the rail under the worktop and then mirrored this on the ceiling with drop down boxed which also hid the extractor ceiling mounted fan. The drop down box is to the exact dimensions of the island with a lower box which mirrors the breakfast-bar. Both in matching grey and white colours.
For added flair we used matt satin glass splash backs to match the units and a detail for the wall units of split units with a shelf strip in the middle with satin glass backing detail.
We suggested the AEG dual microwave/ full oven compact with a top of the range steam oven on top as these ovens are particularly helpful and intuitive. As an indulgence to the frequent tea we installed a Quooker fusion Boil water tap
With the lighting under the work top and wall units being able to change hue there is in built mood lighting and the clients are delighted.
